Dance and Shake with Four-Year-Old Music Critic, Emmy G.

The recently Fortnite-associated music sharing platform Bandcamp.com has waived their portion of revenue share on 17 different Fridays since March 20th, 2020 in an effort to help independent artists effected by the ongoing pandemic. This tradition, widely known, as Bandcamp Friday boasts that “nearly 800,000 fans … paid artists and labels more than $73 million dollars, helping cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and much more” according to their Bandcamp Daily post this morning. If you’re going to download music digitally, order physical merchandise, or explore albums from new-to-you artists, this highly beloved and maligned DIY holiday seems like the day to do it.

Anyway, does ANY of this matter to a child? What do children think of new indie releases being released on Bandcamp? Wormbrain had to find out…

It makes me dance and shake and I like the singing.

Here is the official Wormbrain World review of five recent singles, accordingly to our friend four-year-old Emmy G. and their parents Greg and Steph.

“Lazy Susan” by Raavi, on Beauty Fool Records

“The drums! The cymbals—they’re loud! I like them loud!” - Emmy, while interpretive dancing

“The vocals are very nice—as someone who can’t ‘sing’ to save their life, I’m always super impressed by a really well-done vocal track. This is a cool song for sure.” - Greg

“High School” by Golden Apples, on Lame-O Records

“Russ and I have been friends for fifteen years, and I told him we were reviewing this song; I asked him for money. He wired me $3,000—so I love this song obviously.” - Greg

“This is my favorite singing.” - Emmy, as she hand-drums along on her floor tom while singing made up words

“But, truly, it’s another great song by a great songwriter—with a great band—who deserves more attention.” - Greg

“Mona” by Winkler, self-released

“It makes me dance and shake and I like the singing.” - Emmy, dancing and shaking

“I wasn’t familiar. It’s a very nice song; I’ll check out more by this band for sure. I like the arrangement a bunch.” - Greg

“It reminds me of Cherry Peel-era Of Montreal; I really like it.” - Steph

“Source” by Carol, on Disposable America

“Her singing is pretty like a princess singing.” - Emmy, wearing a blue plastic crown

“We listen to Carol’s album Soiled on cassette a bunch around the house. I’m a huge fan. This song is great—and I can’t wait to hear more new music from Carol.” - Greg

“Peace With The Damage” by Deer Scout, on Carpark Records

(We couldn’t get Emmy to comment on the song, but she smiled and pirouetted, which may be the highest compliment.)

“I really, really like this, and will listen to Deer Scout a bunch from here on out. This is absolutely something that I will pay attention to; it has a super inspiring vibe.” - Greg

Is today Bandcamp Friday? Yes, it is! (Disclaimer: depending on when you read this, it may not be Bandcamp Friday — be sure to check isitbandcampfriday.com to be sure. If it turns out it’s not Bandcamp Friday, the numbers still show that 82% of the $$$ you spend goes to artists on other dates once revenue share and processing fees take their percentage.)
