W.W Disposable Camera Diary 001 — Golden Apples on Tour, 2022

“This tour was humbling in many, many ways, but we fucking willed it into existence and I am proud of that,” said Russell Edling, the pillar person behind the indie rock project Golden Apples and behind the lens of the camera in our first ever W.W Disposable Camera Diary investigation. “I love Golden Apples.”

In an effort to see what it would be like to travel alongside the Philadelphia, PA project as they toured the States with fellow Lame-O Records label mates Mo Troper this past September, we sent Golden Apples out with a disposable camera and asked them to show us.

“I wanted to try to capture just the right images to share with the Wormbrain World audience,” he stated.

The gallery below includes two dozen photos from the Golden Apples camera:

Some places just give you a good feeling, and that good feeling burrows like a worm into an apple and all the sudden you realize you are feeling good to the core. One big slice of American Cheese.

“This image I think captures the phenomenon of trying to force something into being. This is the back yard of the Roboto Project in Pittsburgh, PA. I went out there and saw the mural and was like ‘of course — tourbrain — the whole crew must come out here for a group photo. By the time we got around to it, the show was over and everyone had left, the moon had come out and scared everything living away. The rain was omnipresent, as were we, tired and confused and prodded by my insistence for a photograph. I still like the mural, and it can be agreed that everyone on the tour loves dogs.”

“Not too many long drives on this tour, but enough 3-4 hour sessions that Melissa decided to get some knitting done. I forget what she was working on here — some of her recent projects have been a mason jar koozie with a handle. She has been bringing tea to practice in the koozie, seems like a good situation. She also made her nephew a whacky hat, something I am pretty sure she does every year. Mimi and I have some coasters that Brain knitted for us last year. As one may observe in the photo, I had nothing productive to do to pass the time in the van. Dave Tomaine gave me a comic (Mister Miracle) to read on the tour, but I didn't really start reading it until after we got back. I am suddenly remembering the time I read Haruki Murakami's Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World on tour ten years ago.”

“Gotta tell you, I do really like this photo of Mimi and Matt and I at a Waffle House in — I forget where — probably Ohio. I had only been to a Waffle House once, actually on the tour I mentioned above from ten years ago — Kite Party / Glocca Morra 2012. I think it is true I had only been to a Waffle House once. ‘I saw my twin working at a Waffle House’ I love a classic bullcrap diner breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, endless coffee. I always want the whole spread and then spend the next 8 hours in regret.”

“This is Dazy playing at Garden Grove Brewing in Richmond, VA. We had a nice time in Richmond and I have always loved that city since I was first there. Some places just give you a good feeling, and that good feeling burrows like a worm into an apple and all the sudden you realize you are feeling good to the core. One big slice of American Cheese.”

“Classic from the van photo. But here it is, the culmination of everything we worked for. I bought a van so we could do more touring, I convinced my friends to let me book us a totally DIY tour — not like we'd ever have any other option — and we got to just be together after years of not doing this, years of wondering if I ever would again.”
