Taking Flight with Solilians and “Noshville” [Single Premiere]

Fusing fuzzy psychedelics with fantastical folk instrumentation and dreamlike drone ambience, American Klezmische is the cleverly and aptly titled upcoming EP from Merrick, NY sonic explorers Solilians. Their distinctive sound hodge-podges the inspirations laid bare in the album’s name — combining Americana country roots with the virtuosic interpretation of klezmer music and the avant-gardening techniques of kosmiche (a.k.a. krautrock) without any inherent weirder-than-thou pretension.

Ahead of the EP’s full release next week through experimental independent record label I Heart Noise, the band invites W.W to listen to the epic seven minute new single “Noshville” early — and to we of Wormbrain World, the members of Solilians offer their “sincere gratitude for taking flight on this magnificent phoenix-like journey of American Klezmische.”

The music of Solilians builds cosmic worlds in the span of minutes, making substantial and intimidating track lengths race by like quick trips, leaving you looping endlessly, while the subdued lyrics tell more down-to-earthly stories.

Originally spawned from a collaboration to soundtrack “a super-powers tale sans violence” in the early 2010s, the NY band is now comprised of vocalist Neptune Sweet with Gabriel Walsh, Benjamin Malkin, Mike Margulis, Paul Doliner, and Sharon Malkin* (*who is coincidentally not present on this EP).

W.W: What is Wormbrain?

S: Wormbrain is that feeling you get when your mind is all foggy and suddenly, like a worm crawling through your skull, that eureka moment hits like lightning, pushing aside all the haze to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, like a worm reaching the light of day, splitting in two, finding you.

W.W: Thank you for sharing with Wormbrain.

Solilians’ American Klezmische will be out everywhere via Boston, MA record label I Heart Noise on January 10th, 2022.
